New SIPP Investment Partner – Cofunds
Rowanmoor Pensions has added Cofunds, one of the UK’s largest independent platforms for financial services, to its SIPP investment partner list. The partnership with Cofunds will also give advisers access to the Cofunds online portal, which is updated daily with the latest transactions and valuations, whilst Rowanmoor Pensions’ own SIPPView service provides instant access to information such as SIPP investments, bank transactions and benefit information.

New SSAS opportunity arises from abolition of protected rights
6 April 2012 brings new opportunities for members of a small self-administered scheme (SSAS). From 6 April 2012 the concept of protected rights for money purchase schemes will be abolished meaning any current protected rights funds will become ordinary scheme benefits; with all the additional benefits of flexibility and control that come with that.

Relaxation of carry-forward rules means new contribution opportunity
On 25 November Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) published a change to its interpretation of how carry-forward is calculated. The change in calculation method is a positive change as it potentially increases the tax relievable contribution that can be paid using the carry-forward facility.

Review of the year 2011; challenges and triumphs
2011 has been a busy year for the pensions market and for Rowanmoor Pensions. Fixed Protection deadline approaching
The lifetime allowance is reducing from £1.8 million to £1.5 million with effect from 6 April 2012. With the lifetime allowance being reduced, there is an opportunity to apply for lifetime allowance protection called fixed protection. Fixed protection preserves the lifetime allowance at the current level of £1.8 million.

Robert Graves elected as Head of Technical Sub-Committee, AMPS
Robert has recently been elected as Head of the Technical Sub-Committee, AMPS (the Association of Member-directed Pension Schemes), having held the position of Chairman between 2008 and 2011. Throughout his tenure Robert has actively represented all parts of the industry, whether SIPP provider, bank or investment house, to make representations on behalf of its members to Government bodies such as HMRC and the FSA.
