Ian Hammond, Managing Director
Ian Hammond was born in Birkenhead and educated at Birkenhead School. He joined Duncan C. Fraser & Co. Consulting Actuaries in Liverpool, and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1973. He joined UK Provident as Pensions Actuary in 1974, looking after all the insured pension products of the company, leaving in 1986 as Deputy General Manager (Pensions) to take up the role of Managing Director and Actuary at James Hay Pension Trustees Limited. At this time, James Hay employed just eight people and he has led the business from then, concentrating on the SSAS Division from the year 2000, until undertaking the management buyout of the SSAS and associated consultancy business of James Hay in 2006.
In early 1991 Ian was involved in the production of the first ever self-invested personal pension, launched by Personal Pension Management Limited, and was Managing Director of that company for a time.
Ian became a Pensioneer Trustee in 1979 and has been involved with member-directed pension schemes ever since. He is a former Chairman of the Association of Pensioneer Trustees and Deputy Regional Organiser for the South West of England for The Pensions Advisory Services (TPAS).
