Ian Hammond was born in Birkenhead and educated at Birkenhead School. He joined Duncan C Fraser & Co, Consulting Actuaries in Liverpool, and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1973. He joined UK Provident as Pensions Actuary in 1974 looking after all the insured pension products of the company, leaving in 1986 as Deputy General Manager (Pensions). Ian Hammond took up the role of Managing Director and Actuary at James Hay Pension Trustees Limited in 1986, when James Hay was just eight people and has led the business since then, concentrating since the year 2000 on the SSAS Division.

In early 1991, Ian was involved in the production of the first Self Invested Personal Pension launched by Personal Pension Management Limited and was Managing Director of that company for a time.

Ian has been a Pensioneer Trustee and involved with small self-administered schemes since 1979. He is a former Chairman of the Association of Pensioneer Trustees and Deputy Regional Organiser for the South West of England for the Pensions Advisory Services (PAS).

David Seaton trained as an accountant and entered the financial services industry in 1986 as a sales consultant, concentrating on Corporate Financial Planning, with a leading life insurance company.

In 1989 he moved to a city firm of Independent Financial Advisers where he specialised in financial advice to private limited companies. In 1991 he was appointed director of that IFAs pension trustee company, established their SSAS administration department and obtained Pensioneer Trustee status.

David Seaton joined James Hay Pension Trustees Limited in 1993 as Director of Consultancy. At that time the business had a turnover of less than £1m and 14 staff.

David was elected to the Committee of the Association of Pensioneer Trustees in 1996 and has served on most of its sub-committees. He was elected Honorary Treasurer in 2000 and was Chairman 2001 to 2002. He regularly speaks at national conferences on small self-administered schemes and corporate financial planning for small and medium sized enterprises. David is currently a member of the Board of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers, the IFA industry body.
